Lesvos

Lesvos is a greek island in the Aegean sea. Have a look at the Mapquest map It's considerably closer to Turkey than it is to Greece but, without trying to court controversy, it is very definitely Greek.

We were there in 1996 and loved it. The island is very varied but I I wouldn't suggest it if you are looking for an 18-30's style raveup.

We were stayed at Anaxos. That's the town just before the coast road runs out. That's something that you never get used to the fact that roads can just stop, as if the roadbuilders got bored and went home.

The two weeks held several highlights:

The big brown snake that chased the cat up the lane outside the appartments.
Skordalia - cold mashed potatoes, olive oil and garlic, and then a bit more garlic.
Charley's restaurant on the beach.
Catching an edible sized fish on piece of line a hook and some bread paste.
Finding Theo and his boat in Petra.
Alison getting ticks off the cats - she had been warned :)
